How it works

After you register with your email below, we will send you fresh beta versions of the game as soon as the beta starts. Every week, we will provide a new version, with all the fixes and enhancements we gathered over the last week. Those versions will only run on your computer for this specific week, but you can most likely keep your saved games.

During the beta, you can report issues or complete other tasks which will grant you beta-points. The more points you collect, the better is your reward. You can compare it to a kickstarter, but we don't want your money, only your feedback. The respective rewards for the points are listed below.

Issues are reported on GitHub. Register here if you don't have an account yet. Saved games are sent to isabelleroesch at msn dot com.

Tasks

  • Report a spelling error (1p)
  • report a blemish (a clipping or missing tile, missing particles, ugly item description, etc..) (1p)
  • report a balancing problem (a real one, not mimimi it's too strong) (2p)
  • report a problem with the story and provide an idea how to fix it (5p)
  • report a small bug (5p)
  • report an exploit (you're doing stuff that shouldn't be possible) (5p)
  • report a softlock (your only chance to get out of this situation is to load the game again) (5p)
  • fill in the google questionnaire (will be available soon and sent per mail) (5p)
  • write a honest (negative or positive) steam review (can only be done after you get your steam key, so 20p are required) (5p)

  • report a crash or a gamebreaking bug (15p)
  • play the game and send the saved game per mail (before chapt 3: 3p, after chapt 3: 10p, finished game: 20p)

    FAQ

    Where can I report issues?

As Cendric is an open-source game, issues for the closed beta will be directly reported on GitHub (the Cendric repository is here). To get most of the points, it will be required to have a GitHub account.

I don't wanna create a dumb GitHub account...

You can of course also register for the beta, test the game, and don't use a GitHub account. Sending the devs issues over email (see the team page for isa's mail) is discouraged, but allowed of course. You can also be a passive beta-tester that doesn't report anything, we won't be mad.

Why do I have to provide my mail?

So we can send you 3 fresh builds during the beta and also infos whenever required. We promise that we won't send you spam or sell your address to shady bots. You can also deregister at any time. We respect your privacy.

When and how will I get my Steam key?

You will a get a Steam key per mail if you've reached 20 beta-points. It's easy to reach them, finishing the game and sending us your saved game will already grant you 20. You will get your key as soon as Cendric is released on Steam, which is around the end of the year.

Do I have to use my Steam key...?

You don't have to redeem it yourself. You can also gift it to someone. But it would be great if you wouldn't sell it.

Your game is open source... people can just compile it themselves!

Yes. You can, as well. Especially for certain Linux distributions, it is required as we only give away compiled versions for Ubuntu. But you will miss the Steam achievements and some content if you compile it from the repository.

I registered at GitHub. What now?

If you see any bug/flaw or got a question that might concern others as well, go to issues and create your issue there. Also, if you want points, drop a mail with your GitHub name so we can give you your beta-points.

Why are the builds only playable for one week?

We want to encourage people to use the new build instead of playing on old builds with issues. You can keep your saved game though.

I don't have Windows. Will I be able to participate as well?

We will send weekly builds for Windows, Mac and Linux.

I would love to participate, if it only were an app...

Cendric is played with keyboard and mouse. If your mobile phone / tablet has keyboard and mouse adapters, we might port it for you.
